Why Explore Dehradun on a Two-Wheeler?

Nestled in the Doon Valley between the Shivalik hills and the Himalayas, Dehradun is known for its pleasant weather, lush green institutional campuses, natural caves, and bustling café culture. However, navigating central spots like Paltan Bazaar, Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar), and Chakrata Road in a 4-wheeler cab can be slow and stressful during peak hours.

Renting an automatic scooty (from ₹500/day*) or a commuter bike (from ₹800/day*) gives you complete flexibility. You can park easily, explore narrow valley lanes, and hop between spots at your own pace.

Must-Visit Dehradun Spots by Two-Wheeler

1

Forest Research Institute (FRI)

Location: Chakrata Road • 5 km from Railway Station

Sprawled across 450 hectares, the FRI campus is an architectural marvel built in Greco-Roman style. Riding through its grand tree-lined avenues of deodar and eucalyptus is an iconic Dehradun experience.

Rider Tip: Ample two-wheeler parking is available at the main visitor gate. Remember to carry photo ID for entry tickets.

2

Robber's Cave (Guchhupani)

Location: Anarwala • 8 km from Clock Tower

A 600-meter-long natural limestone river cave where you can wade through cool, ankle-deep natural stream water enclosed between towering cliff walls. A fantastic afternoon escape during warm months.

Rider Tip: Slippers can be rented at the entrance. The approach road through Anarwala village is narrow, where a scooty is much easier to ride than a full-size car.

3

Sahastradhara (Thousand-Fold Spring)

Location: Sahastradhara Road • 14 km from City Center

Famous for its natural sulphur water springs, dripping stalactite caves, and step pools. It is believed to have therapeutic qualities, and offers scenic views of the Baldi River gorge.

Rider Tip: The road to Sahastradhara passes through pleasant green suburbs. Keep an eye out for speed breakers and roadside vegetable stalls.

4

Maldevta & Song River Valley

Location: Raipur Block • 16 km East of City

If you want to escape commercial tourist crowds, ride towards Maldevta along the crystal-clear Song River. Surrounded by terraced paddy fields and tranquil forested slopes, this is a beloved local riding destination.

Rider Tip: Excellent road surface for a smooth motorcycle cruise on a Royal Enfield or 150cc bike.

5

Rajpur Road & Malsi Hillside Cafés

Location: Northern Dehradun

As you head north toward Mussoorie, Rajpur Road becomes a stylish stretch of bakeries, specialty coffee shops, and artisan bistros. Perfect for an evening ride and relaxed dinner under pine trees.

Basecamp Tip: Northern Dehradun and the Malsi foothills can be a convenient base for multi-day sightseeing, with access to Rajpur Road cafés and routes toward Mussoorie.
